Spring Forth: Nature's Lessons in Regrowth and Resilience

There’s something about March—how the air shifts, how the soil starts to warm—that invites reflection on growth. Not just the tender shoots and blooming buds we begin to see around us, but the growth that takes root in spite of hardship. The kind that whispers: you’re still here. Keep going.

seqouia tree with trauma

Recently, I was reminded of this quiet resilience on a trip to Washington, where I had the chance to stand beneath the towering Sequoia trees. They are breathtaking—ancient, steady, immovable. But what caught my attention most wasn’t their height or age—it was the strange, knobby bumps I saw on some of their trunks.

I later learned these bumps were signs of trauma. Some had been struck by lightning. Others had endured fires or human damage. And yet, they stood. They grew. They continued to stretch upward and reach for the light.

The trauma didn’t kill the tree. It became part of its story.

That realization sank deep. I thought about the scars we carry—not always visible, but felt. The moments that tried to break us. The seasons that scorched us. And still, somehow, we grow.

Like the Sequoias, our resilience doesn’t mean we were untouched. It means we weren’t defeated.

There is something holy about honoring both the wound and the regrowth. To say: yes, this happened. And yes, I am still growing. Still rooted. Still reaching.

As spring begins to unfold around us, may we take heart from the trees. May we remember that healing doesn’t erase what hurt us, but it does prove that life continues. That beauty is still possible. That growth is always within reach.

Reflection Question:What parts of you are still growing—perhaps quietly—after seasons of difficulty or trauma?

I’d love to hear what nature is teaching you about resilience. Drop your thoughts in the comments and let’s grow together.
